The
fifth workshop on “Is There Anyone Hearing Me?!” was held in
Volos, Greece (18th – 23rd April, 2010). “Joan Ekzarh”
Language School, Vratsa, was represented by Mr. I. Nikolov,
Ms. D. Georgieva, Ms. S. Mladenova and Ms. E. Veselinova.
After the official welcoming and the great
cultural-and-educational program, performed by the students
from the host school, all the partners analysed what they
have done so far on the project. The Bulgarian group
presented the PowerPoint presentation “Trees are not just
wood”, created by Yana and Viktoria from 5th “B” class, as
well as the multi-media film, made by Havina from 11th “A”,
which is based on the seminar, held during the Healthy
Eating Week in the Language School.
In connection with the topic of the project – keeping,
preserving and restoration of the environment, the partners
visited the following places:
• The Environmental Center and School in the village of
Makrenitsa, situated in the Pelion mountains. The partners
get acquainted with the culture and the way of life of the
local villagers who keep the tradition of preserving and
restoring the surrounding environment as it used to be;
• The Lake Karla which is being restored now after its
waters were drained in 1962 to prevent from flooding the
nearest village of Kanalia. The restoration of the lake
started in 1990 and will be finished in 2013 when part of it
will be used for the rowing competitions in the
Mediterranean Games. The guests visited also the museum in
Kanalia which exhibits documentary facts about the way of
life of the lokal villagers during 1950-1960s. The vital
role of the lake for the means of living and the surrounding
flora and fauna can also be seen in the museum.
• The Archeological Museum of Volos
• The University of Thessaly where the rector met and talked
to the participants in the project
• The Prefecture of Magnesia where they were welcomed by two
vice governors of the district and gave an interview for the
local newspaper
• The isle of Skiathos and a cruise on the Aegean sea with
the Hellenic Seaways ship
We are extremely impressed by the ecological way of life of
the people living in Volos and the surrounding villages as
well as the courteous hospitality and friendliness of our
hosts from Greece.
The last workshop on the project will be held in Poland from
24th to 28th of May 2010.
Is
the world Genetically-modified-organism (GMO) policy right?
Is this policy based on reasoned and provable theories or it
is the most cruel experiment carried out with the mankind?
Campaigns about food additives and GMOs are put into effect
in the whole country of Bulgaria. This made students from
Joan Ekzarh Language School in Vratsa willing to become part
of the national campaign of food safety. They decided to
devote a week to the healthy eating. The Healthy Eating Week
was organized in the period between March 15th – 19th.
During this week they spread over 200 brochures in the
school as well as in the whole city.
The culmination of the week was the seminar of healthy
eating, organized by the students and carried out in the
school assembly hall
Trees
are not just wood
The youngest students from Joan Ekzarh Language School in
Vratsa – the 5th graders, started worrying about forests
which are becoming extinct. They do not hesitate that trees
are not just wood. Here is their point of view.
Victoria and Yana from 5th B class
The
youngest students in our school (5th graders) are making
Christmas decorations using waste materials and recycled
paper. The kids are very enthusiastic being involved in the
project. They are eager to use their imagination in creating
beautiful things bringing joy to the people they love.
Moreover, they are happy as this way they are giving their
modest contribution to saving the environment.
Students
from 9th A class are expressing their thoughts about keeping the
environment clean and our contribution to saving the planet we
live on
